FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Guest speakers from Schulich School of Business, Agile BK and the customs brokerage sector to address AI, bookkeeping and cross-border trade

MISSISSAUGA, ON, October 16, 2026 – The Society of Professional Accountants of Canada (RPA Canada) will hold its 48th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Hyatt Place Hotel in Mississauga, Ontario. This year’s meeting, chaired by RPA Canada President & CEO Zubair Choudhry, centres on the theme of competency and the impact of artificial intelligence on the accounting profession.
As AI reshapes how accounting, bookkeeping and advisory work is done, the AGM will bring members together with leading voices from academia and industry to examine what it means to remain competent, accountable and trusted in a technology-enabled profession.

Guest speakers

Dr. Luke Zhu is Program Director of the Master of Management program and Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Business, York University. He is also Associate Editor of Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. Dr. Zhu will address impact of AI in management and accounting education.

Mitchel Derksen, Founder and CEO of Agile BK, will present on bookkeeping in the age of AI, exploring how automation and intelligent tools are changing day-to-day bookkeeping practice and what practitioners need to do to adapt.
Shoukat Khan, Director of CBSA Licensed Customs Broker & Trade Consultant firm, will speak on cross-border shipment and documentation requirements, and on the handling of customs and tariff regulations, a growing concern for the small and medium-sized businesses that many RPA Canada members serve.

Business of the meeting
In addition to the speaker program, members will consider a resolution on competency, professional judgment and the ethical use of AI in the accounting profession, with a call on Canada’s academic, political and policy leaders to act.
“AI is changing our profession faster than education and policy are keeping pace. Our members are on the front line, and this AGM is about making sure Canadian accountants have the competency, the ethical grounding and a national voice to meet that change.” – Zubair Choudhry, President & CEO
